Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
Lemon Check Auto is built so that no personal data is collected, stored on our servers, sold, or shared. We have no servers and no accounts.
What happens with data
- When you look up a car, only the vehicle's year, make, and model (or a VIN, if you use the VIN tab) are sent to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's public APIs (nhtsa.gov) to retrieve public recall, complaint, and safety-rating records. VINs identify vehicles, not people.
- Results are cached locally in your own browser for up to 7 days so repeat lookups are instant. This never leaves your device.
- The optional "full history report" button opens a third-party vehicle-history website in a new tab. This happens only when you click it, and the link may be an affiliate link that supports Lemon Check Auto at no extra cost to you.
What we do not do
- No analytics, tracking, telemetry, or cookies for tracking.
- No account, sign-up, or login.
- No selling or sharing of any data with third parties.
The Chrome extension
The Lemon Check Auto browser extension follows the same principles. It reads the listing you are viewing to identify the vehicle and displays the results on the page; listing text is analyzed locally in your browser and is never transmitted anywhere. It requests only the permissions needed to detect the car and query NHTSA.
